In my opinion, any capsule coffee (Nespresso, Keurig, etc.) is today’s version of instant coffee, no better!
Let’s do a comparison.
Here is a listing of the factors that make the best coffee (by “best” I am referring to the best tasting, healthiest, and has the greatest amount of substances that provide energy, focus, and clarity of thought).
- Fresh Roasted
- 100% Arabica (1/2 the caffeine as its cheaper counterpart, Robusta)
- Freshly Ground
- Freshly Brewed (if brewed with an Espresso machine you are maximizing the potency factor making it the richest and strongest brewing process on the planet).
Now here is a description of capsule coffee.
- Not Fresh Roasted
- Often NOT 100% Arabica (usually to boost the caffeine levels and save money by using Robusta and making some excuse as to why they chose to do that).
- Not Freshly Ground (in fact it’s been sitting already ground and oxidized in its capsule container for quite some time).
- Freshly Brewed, but with a machine that basically is just pouring hot water through the coffee contained in the capsule.
The only reason people choose capsule coffee is because of convenience and marketing. These companies know how to appeal to the general coffee drinking public who are often clueless as to the characteristics of great coffee.
Try a taste test for yourself to determine if you can tell a difference. A blind taste test is best…..try doing one with some of your friends!
